Omori/Kuratau Croquet Club

The Croquet Club meets on Tuesdays at 1pm at the Omori Croquet Green all year round. Visitors are encouraged to join us or use the facility at any other time by visiting the shop to collect the key. For further information contact:

Fitness Class (Community Centre)

Held every Tuesday at 9.30am until 10.45am. Classes are low impact upright to suit all of the community. $5.00 per person.

Ladies Crafts (Community Centre)

Every second Monday morning at 10 am to 12 pm ladies in the area meet to share their knowledge and skills in a wide variety of crafts and enjoy each others company. Morning tea and fresh baking is organized in advance. Cost for the craft morning is $2.00.

Indoor Bowls (Community Centre)

Indoor bowls is held every Thursday evening at 7.00 pm. Bowls evenings are very informal and provide an ideal way of getting to know the community. Experience is not required as the majority of the attendees could be classed as novices. A charge of $2.00 for the hall hire and $2.00 for the raffle is made.

Pot Luck Dinner (Community Centre)

Held on the last Friday of the month. Each person is asked to bring either a main course and/or a desert to put on a communal table. A charge of $2.00 per person is made to support the halls operation costs. Often a theme for the evening is arranged for entertainment.


Omori/Kuratau Pest Management Group

A group of 14 volunteers who undertake weekly predator control (stoats, rats, feral cats,hedgehogs, possums …) in the Omori and Kuratau area using traps and bait stations.

 Our Location Omori-Kuratau is a great base for exploring the Central Plateau including Tongariro National Park, Mt Ruapehu and the Tongariro Crossing. Project Tongariro Summer Holiday Programme The summer holiday programme has been released – if you haven’t heard of it, there are some pretty cool trips that enable you to access some amazing parts of the country more easily and with very knowledgeable guides (DOC Staff). The Tongariro Alpine Crossing takes about 7–8 hours and hikers will cross between two active volcanoes of Tongariro National Park. The crossing is highly rated by tourists as amongst the 10 best walks in the world. The Tongariro Crossing is a spectacular adventure set in a pristine alpine environment. Click on the link below for further information. Alpine Skiing Whakapapa on Mount Ruapehu is a 45 minute drive from Omori/Kuratau. Whakapapa on the northern side of Mt Ruapehu and is the largest ski area in New Zealand. Turoa is about 70 minutes drive and is accessed through Ohakune on the Southern side of the Mountain. Rafting on the Tongariro River The Tongariro River is one of New Zealand’s most well-known rivers and is famed world-wide for it wonderful trout fishing and rafting adventures. Tongariro National Trout Centre The Tongariro National Trout Centre is the ultimate experience for all those who love fishing for trout.
